I’m happy to tell you that I learned why I love rock and roll — and why millions of people do — because it has in its very sound a guide for how we want to be in our lives.
What I learned is based on the following principle of Aesthetic Realism, the philosophy founded by the great American poet and critic Eli Siegel: “All beauty is a making one of opposites, and the making one of opposites is what we are going after in ourselves.”
Please enjoy some of the papers I’ve written on individual recordings (from the menu above), talks I’ve given on topics other than rock and roll, videos of performances by me and others — as well as “News & Reviews” appearing as blog posts on this page.
